UNC youth claim another successful year
The Youth Arm of the UNC has had another very successful year as it emerges as the top performing Youth Organization of Trinidad and Tobago. This performance and success was based on the number of projects the Youth Arm would have efficiently and effectively executed to not only promote Youth Development but also to ensure Youth Engagement and Growth.
The Youth Arm’s Strategy and Agenda was based on its motto – A Place, Plan and Purpose for all Young People of Trinidad and Tobago. Driven by the inspiration of the vision and leadership of the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar Prime Minister the youth organization was able to implement programs in all of the Constituencies of the Nation along with varying these projects from sport to education.
Some of the Signature Project of the Youth Arm for 2014 included :
Live YUH Life Program – the official Health and fitness program of the United National Congress which saw the health caravan vising over 8 constituencies and benefiting over 500 people with free medical care, fitness training and education on the prevention of lifestyle diseases.
Bridging the Digital Divide – The UNC Youth Arm became the first Youth Organisation in the Caribbean to execute a program to provide computers to less fortunate families and communities. Since its development in 2011 the Youth Arm has given out over 105 computers inclusive of 22 for the year. The Youth Arm was hailed by the United Nations for implementing such a program at the World Youth Conference in Sri Lanka 2014.
Cricket for Life Foundation – the UNC Youth Arm launched its own brand of sporting Tournaments when it launched the Cricket for life Foundation which has held over 5 tournaments and assisted over 65 cricketers with employment and gears. The Foundation has also been instrumental in assisting over 6 teams raising funds for the season’s activities.
Football for Development – the UNC Youth Arm also continued its youth Development through Sport when it kicked off its Football for Development program. This program was aimed not only at football but providing life skills training for over 200 young footballers
UNC Youth Arm partners with UN – Habitat – the Chairman of the UNC Youth Arm was appointed as UN-Habitat Coordinator in the Caricom Region in May 2014 and together with his Youth team was able to place Trinidad and Tobago 20th in the rankings of 194 nations for the MY World UN Global Survey with over 31,000 votes.
