Anand helps give out 500 school bags to children
…UNC Youth Arm launches ‘Learn to Live’ programme
UNC Youths on a Mission yesterday launched its “Learn to Live” programme at the South-East Port of Spain Community Centre, opposite the Besson Street Police Station.
The “Learn to Live” programme is an initiative of the United National Congress (UNC) Youth Arm and is co-ordinated by Attorney General Anand Ramlogan.
Over 500 school bags were distributed to children from the East Port of Spain area, including Duncan and Nelson Streets.
Ramlogan indicated the launch came on the heels of last Wednesday’s meeting with the residents from Duncan and Nelson Streets.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Ramlogan and Minister of National Security Emmanuel George led a team of State officials to listen to the concerns of residents at a meeting in the South-East Port of Spain Secondary School.
Ramlogan said the formula for success involved perspiration, inspiration and, in appropriate cases, assistance. The Government is willing to provide assistance, but he reminded those gathered in the overflowing community centre that God helps those who help themselves.
He recalled the words of Dr Eric Williams and said the future of the nation was in the school bag and asked that children be allowed to learn so they can live.
