Tancoo: Why the Secrecy Rohan?
Oropouche West MP Dave Tancoo has accused Minister Rohan Sinanan of an “obscene and arrogant insult” to the 26,000 taxpayers living in Oropouche West by refusing to provide a basic list of works to be undertaken in the constituency. According to Tancoo, “A minister who refuses to account for the billions he has been spending should not be given more.”
MP Tancoo stated that he had written to Minister Sinanan over two years ago, providing him with a list of roads that were in desperate need of repair. Despite Sinanan’s commitment in April 2021 to provide the requested information, Tancoo has yet to receive any such list.
This list is one of the most basic pieces of information possessed by the Minister and represents his work plan for the fiscal year. If the Minister does not have this basic document with half the fiscal year already done, how can he justify the billions already spent in contracts for 2023?
Tancoo challenged Minister Sinanan to stop the secrecy and account for the population’s money, questioning why the information is not being provided to citizens. “If there is nothing to hide, why all this mystery?” he asked.
According to the Oropouche West MP, the failure of Sinanan and the PNM over the last eight years in office has caused our country to have the worst roads in the Caribbean. MP Tancoo called for an end to the disrespect shown by Sinanan and his PNM gang towards taxpayers who are paying their salaries.
“I challenge the Minister to make public the list of works due to be undertaken in the Oropouche West Constituency during the rest of fiscal 2023 and their cost,” Tancoo declared. “Stop the secrecy!”
