Dear Editor:
In an interesting move by the Integrity Commission, they have initiated an investigation into a claim made on the platform during the recently concluded Chaguanas West by-elections.
As we know, the campaigning was fierce, and there were numerous allegations being bandied about. However, the Integrity Commission, in choosing to invoke Section 33 of the Integrity in Public Life Act, has zeroed in on a spurious claim made with weak evidence at best. Pictures of houses allegedly owned by a Minister in government does not and will never constitute hard evidence on which to launch an investigation. There has been other serious claims made on the platform, we await to see whether these would also be investigated. Mr. Jack Warner has been dogged by corruption for many years, and there was also evidence of shady dealings on his part during the campaign. Lets hope that there is fairness in the decision making of the Integrity Commission in launching these investigations, and we see an even distribution with regards to these self-initiated matters.
