Rowley walkout an affront to democracy
THE Keith Rowley-led walkout during a motion of no confidence in Leader of the Opposition brought by the Government, is a serious affront to democracy and a display of his stark inability to remain composed under the pressure of debate and responsibility.
This according to a statement from Public Relations Officer of the United National Congress (UNC) on Wednesday. The statement came shortly after Keith Rowley led a walkout from the debate, on the urging of Diego Martin East MP, Colm Imbert.
According to the statement: “What we saw with Keith Rowley’s decision to walk out of a debate that brought scrutiny on his performance is a reflection of the highhandedness and arrogance he intends to take into Government if he wins a general election.”
“What Dr Rowley has demonstrated to the entire nation today is that he is incapable of withstanding the pressure of debate and opposing views, and also incapable of admitting to his mistakes or being forthright with the nation.”
“Clear evidence and facts were brought to the Parliament for the benefit of the citizens of Trinidad & Tobago, and to show the distance that Keith Rowley and his team would go to hide, manipulate, distort and mislead.”
“That Rowley chose to walk out was to thumb his nose at the people of Trinidad & Tobago, and is tantamount to saying he can do and say as he pleases, and refuse to answer to the people. To walk out of Parliament is to stand against the fundamental principles of democracy and to say that citizens through their representatives have no right to question his actions, motives and public statements.”
