PADARATH: Kangaloo and Independent Senators cannot Separate Themselves from PNM
MP for Princes Town, Barry Padarath is joining with the Opposition Leader in the call for the PNM Government to withdraw their presidential nomination, citing Christine Kangaloo’s inability to separate herself from the Party.
Padarath stated that the public record of Kangaloo has been littered with appointments with very little substance as Kangaloo has failed to make any positive impact in the portfolios she previously held. He added that she will most be remembered for her role in the unlawful dismissal of the former Governor of the Central Bank despite her alleged legal prowess.
The Princes Town MP said that he is concerned about the role Independent Senators will play at next week Friday’s meeting of the Electoral College, as Senators who have been under the oversight of the Senate President for seven years are being asked to vote for her as President of the Republic, which will see repercussions should they not vote in a particular way. He added that this is a troubling and disturbing development for our democracy.
Padarath indicated that next week Friday’s meeting of the Electoral College would more than likely see Independent Senators bowing to the dictates of the government to vote for Kangaloo in a desperate effort to keep their seat in the Senate Chamber, while government members oblivious to a failing society will trump and follow their leader’s demand. He added that both of these groups will be acting in their own interest and survival and not that of the country.
The Princes Town MP said that the country was witness to a group of persons who defended the actions of Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes in the Police Service Commission fiasco when the Opposition brought impeachment proceedings against the President. He added that the country today must ask them why. Is it because they cannot separate themselves from personal interest or is it because of their deep rooted connections albeit masked to the PNM? Or is it a case of both?
Padarath said a sanitized version of the once acidic and toxic Christine Kangaloo towards the opposition is being foisted upon the country. He added let us not attempt to fool ourselves and the country into believing that Kangaloo has departed from the Gospel of the PNM.
