MP Charles: Is Kangaloo still a card carrying member of the PNM?

Posted On 14 Jan 2023

Mr. Rodney Charles
Member of Parliament
Naparima

Before the electoral college meets to vote on who will become our next President, MP Charles is demanding that Christine Kangaloo publicly resign from the PNM. As far as MP Charles is aware, she has not done so.

This would make her the first President of our country to be a card carrying, pledged member of a political party. If she isn’t, it is incumbent on her to prove it to the nation.

She has been a PNM Senator and held three PNM Ministerial positions in the Ministry of the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education.

The President must be someone that is independent and free from any party affiliation, not an active politician. Christine Kangaloo has preached the gospel of the PNM for her entire political career. Can she be expected to be an impartial, unbiased and even handed President of the Republic?

The Opposition will continue to completely reject her nomination. She will be a PNM President, not a national one.

If Ms. Kangaloo has any integrity, morality, patriotism and shame, she would decline this nomination. However, failing to do so, she must at minimum, resign from the PNM and pretend to show some form of impartiality.
