PADARATH: Calls for immediate assessment of Gandhi village Sub Station facilities
In light of the most recent black out, due to a landslide which caused damage to the sub station at Gandhi Village, Shadow for Public Utilities, Barry Padarath, MP, is calling for an immediate assessment of the facilities.
Padarath also took umbrage with the line Minister’s silence and lack of leadership.
The 220-kV Union Estate – Gandhi Village line circuit was affected just 6 months ago when a fungus affected tree fell on one of the lines, since then the government has been admittedly wasting 1.2 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per month as a temporary measure, while they implement recommendations coming out of the February black out. Padarath is, therefore, raising questions as to the effectiveness of any measures that were put in place since the first black out.
The MP also questioned when was the last time and how often are these facilities inspected, in terms of structural integrity, to ensure that these occurrences are mitigated where possible and inconvenience to citizens are minimized.
Padarath called on Minister Gonzales to break his silence, let the country know if an assessment was done of the Gandhi Village sub station facilities and if so, what were the findings. He also called on Gonzales to state which recommendations have been implemented and which are still languishing since the February 16th recommendations.
Padarath ended by calling on the Minister to spend less time focusing on how many WASA managers he could send home and spend some time preventing these untenable situations.
