Opposition Leader Father’s Day Message
On this special occasion of Father’s Day, I extend warm wishes to all the incredible fathers and father figures across our nation. Today, we celebrate and honour their contributions and unwavering dedication, and the important role they play in shaping our families, communities, and society at large.
Father’s Day serves as a reminder to appreciate and recognize the tireless efforts, sacrifices, and unconditional love of fathers everywhere.
Fatherhood is a privilege and a sacred responsibility and requires an unwavering commitment to doing your best to mould your children. Fathers inspire us to dream big and encourage us to reach our full potential. I am thankful for my own father’s willingness, when I was a young girl, to be open-minded about my future aspirations. His acceptance, love and support played a critical role in shaping me as an individual and as a leader.
While we take this day to express our gratitude, we must also acknowledge that many fathers face numerous challenges – economic pressures, work-life balance, and societal expectations can create burdens that impact their ability to be fully present in their children’s lives. The UNC recognizes the need to address these issues and strive for a society that supports fathers in their essential role.
We also honour all father figures on this day —stepfathers, adoptive fathers, foster fathers, and those who mentor and guide children without a biological connection. We appreciate and respect you for your efforts in shaping the lives of young ones, and in providing a role model for them to look up to.
Today, as we celebrate Father’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a society that empowers and supports fathers, ensuring they have the opportunities and resources necessary to be the best fathers they can be.
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures out there. May this day serve as a reminder of the profound impact you have on the lives of those around you.
