MP Khadijah Ameen calls Prime Minister a blatant liar
Member of Parliament for St. Augustine and Shadow Minister for Rural Development and Local Government, Ms. Khadijah Ameen is calling Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley a blatant liar. Responding to claims made about UNC Councillors by the Prime Minister, she says that Dr. Rowley’s accusations are totally false, desperate and pathetic. MP Ameen states that no instruction has ever been given whether directly or indirectly by any member of the Opposition for Councillors to neglect their district to “make the PNM look bad”. She says that on the contrary, UNC Councillors often raise funds, or take money out of their own pockets for projects within the community including road patching, fabricating no dumping signs, purchasing materials and purchasing diesel for Corporation vehicles and equipment.
The St. Augustine MP says that on numerous occasions, residents would contribute towards the purchasing of material while the Regional Corporation provided labor and equipment to ensure the completion of urgent projects. The MP says that even PNM Councillors utilize this strategy as they also face some level of frustration acquiring funding due to the high level of incompetence from the Government. She says that Dr. Rowley’s claim is a pathetic attempt to make excuses for the government’s incompetence in Local Government. She believes that the Prime Minister only cares about the deplorable road conditions and deteriorating drainage infrastructure that citizens endure on a daily basis when it affects him directly.
