MP Ameen calls on COP to deploy resources as crime surges in St. Augustine
Member of Parliament for St. Augustine, Ms. Khadijah Ameen expressed her concern on the increase in home invasions and robberies within the St. Augustine constituency. She says that bandits and criminals are now patrolling in gangs late at night and early in the morning scoping out the homes of residents. Several incidents were caught on CCTV cameras by residents in the Spring Village, Pasea and Valsayn South areas. The Member of Parliament is asking whether the police have the resources to respond adequately and timely in the instances of property invasions and burglary.
MP Ameen stated that she plans to continue a series of meetings with the police following those successfully held in the Bamboo and St. Augustine South areas. She says that her intention as the Member of Parliament is to facilitate the police and foster their engagement with the communities through the setting up of neighborhood watch groups. She wants to develop these bonds throughout the constituency but emphasize areas prone to criminal invasions. The MP further identified praedial larceny as a growing threat in the constituency as farmers continue to lose their crops overnight which directly affects their livelihoods. MP Ameen is calling on the Commissioner of Police Mrs. Erla Harewood- to take note of the increase in criminal activities in the St. Augustine Constituency and deploy the necessary resources to prevent and deter such activities.
