MP Khadijah Ameen calls for flood prevention
Member of Parliament for St. Augustine Ms. Khadijah Ameen is calling on the Ministry of Works and Transport to protect residents of St. Augustine and neighboring communities from severe flooding. The meteorological office has announced the start of the rainy season. To date the work promised by the Minister of Works to strengthen river, banks, replace faulty, floodgates, and to ensure that all pumps are functional and suitably manned is not yet complete. She is calling on the Minister of Works on Honorable Rohan Sinanan to do all within his power to ensure that the people of Bamboo Valsayn South, Spring Village and St. Augustine South do not have a repeat of the devastating flooding faced in December due to the negligence of the state.
MP Ameen said the Drainage Division has legal jurisdiction over the watercourses and river reserves and therefore should not shirk from its responsibilities
