Moonilal: Hovering drones, another sign of the collapse of national security under Hinds
Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds must wake up from his slumber and move swiftly to cordon off the spaces over the prison and find the origin of drones hovering over the Maximum Security Prison.
The appropriate technology is available to the Ministry and must be utilised to determine who is undermining the country’s security and trafficking in contraband items. This government has refused to purchase the critical equipment and technology to pin point the source of control and direction of drones and to bring them down if hovering over sensitive national security installations. This technology is available to the government . Why they would refuse to obtain this equipment remains a mystery.
We must also be mindful that the Rowley government has passed laws to intercept phone calls from the prisons but prefer to spy on political opponents.
A police investigation must be conducted with the aim of bringing the criminals to justice
The fact that the drones have operated without hindrance is another example of manifest inefficiency by the failed Minister and the government.
The administration of Ms, Kamla Persad-Bissessar had purchased modern jammers and grabbers to intercept telephone calls from behind bars.
It is disturbingly obvious that the national prisons are a source of crime and that Minister Hinds continues to be a catastrophic failure in his glaring absence of suitable policy measures and proactive programs.
The Minister must take effective and urgent action with respect to the national security threat caused by the presence of drones over the prison facility.
