Minister & Nursing Council unite to produce more nurses
The Minister of Health is hoping to make some changes to ensure this country produces more nurses.
Speaking at the 21st Meeting of the Nursing Council at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Monday, Dr. Fuad Khan said he hoped to make changes to increase the output and capability of local nurses.
“I was able to find a way together with the Nursing Council. Of course, we had our ups and downs, our arguments, which is normal, and we have developed multiple streams to do it, the same way that the Americans do it.”
The Minister said such a move could also provide the option for Trinidad to export nurses and in turn bolster our economy.
“The Caribbean itself will produce nurses in a manner, that is, we do it already that will supply our shortage as well as a possibility of a worldwide shortage because a lot of places, if you didn’t realise, they get their income from external people sending back money to their families internal, and that is a large foreign exchange earner for a lot of countries.”
