Jack stop being a ‘cry baby’
THE EDITOR: Sometimes, the local political landscape is visited by elected representatives who go on to overstay their welcome. Sometimes their “longevity” is brought about by the unwillingness of their constituents to turn the broom upside down because said representatives knew exactly how to showboat…and, most importantly, when.
In Chaguanas West, it lately seems the art of hanging around has been practised. Behind the neon lights and veneer, the quality of life there is still hellish, eg, the roads are still wavy and narrow, vehicular traffic horrific, drainage poor or clogged, footpaths narrow and pocked with broken manhole covers and obstructed by haggling hucksters or protruding shop façades, hazardous effluent pours untreated from commercial and industrial premises, paramedics take 45 minutes or more to respond to a desperate call for help and women earn much less than men for doing the same job…all that, after hundreds of millions have been spent on that part of Trinidad over the past three years. That’s the truth of the house of cards Jack, the former MP, built. Thankfully, it’s about to be demolished.
If Mr Warner had really performed as an elected representative, his bye-election campaign would not have been the gaudy exercise it has been where every ploy is used in a studied effort to divert attention away from the fact that it isn’t. From the outset, all he and his team have been doing is “cry babying” that Jack put Kamla where she is, so voters should have given him a second chance. Fat chance!
Persons have no need of playing the sympathy card if their legacy is alive, healthy, visible and thriving. Sensible voters never take back elected representatives who chuck the job either—which is precisely what Jack did when he resigned without cause as MP for Chaguanas West. Voters give such deserters the red card. In Jack’s case, it’s a decision made easier if they remember the alphabet already sealed his fate—his name begins with J…after J is K…this is Kamla’s and Khadijah’s time, not his!
