Government, Neal and Massy and Mitsubishi reaffirm commitment to petrochemical plant
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Kevin Ramnarine met today (Tuesday 13th August 2013) with a senior delegation from the Mitsubishi Corporation including the Chairman of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Kazuo Sakai and the Executive Vice President of the Mitsubishi Corporation Takahisa Miyauchi and held discussions on the implementation of a methanol to di-methyl ether petrochemical plant.
Also in attendance at the meeting held at the Office of the Member of Parliament for Siparia were Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs Selwyn Lashley and President of Neal and Massy Group Gervase Warner
The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Neal and Massy and Mitsubishi all reaffirmed their commitment to the (US) $850million methanol to di-methyl ether (DME) project which would be located on 50 hectares of land at the Union Industrial Estate in La Brea.
Approximately 3,000 jobs are expected to be created at peak construction.
This project is expected to start in 2014 subject to regulatory approvals.
