Councillor Calls for Completion of New Reform Hindu School – Asks All Schools to Stand Together
Delivering the feature address at the 2019 Graduation Ceremony of the Reform Hindu School, Councillor for the district of Reform / Manahambre has issued another call on the government to complete the new Reform Hindu School. The new building is located a mere few feet away from the existing school which is housed on the Reform Shiv Mandir’s temple grounds. According to the councillor, the building was 95% complete by the previous People’s Partnership government and was left abandoned since September 2015 when the PNM government assumed office.
Councillor Hosein also noted that this issue is one that many schools across the country face and has called the trend “worrisome and troubling” as the government continues to treat education with disdain. In this regard, Councillor Hosein issued a call for all schools to stand together and demand what is rightfully theirs saying the future of our children depends on their education. During his address, Councillor Hosein stated “From day one I remember standing with students and parents in the rain protesting outside the parliament for this new school. I remember standing in the burning sun to protest for it. And I want to tell you, that I am prepared to go the distance and do what it takes to ensure you get what you deserve. In fact, I am aware that this issue persists among a number of schools throughout the country and I think it is time for all the schools to come together, stand together and demand what our children deserve!”
Hosein said he is prepared to go directly to the Prime Minister as Education Minister Anthony Garcia has not been forthcoming with a solution and has demonstrated a blatant lack of political will to have the school completed.
