More avenues for accountability
The general public seems to be of the view that persons accountable to
the public for mismanaging public funds are never held responsible
after their terms in office.
The recent ruling delivered by Justice Devindra Rampersad in the case
between eTecK and eight directors, including former chairman Ken
Julien, Brian Copeland, Wendy Fitzwilliam and others removed the four
– year limitation on undertaking legal proceedings against persons
accused of wrongdoing against the State changed this paradigm.
This judgment would definitely revolutionise corporate governance
since board members would be held accountable, even after they demit
office, when wrongdoing is uncovered.
Congratulations to the state in this legal matter under the leadership
of the Hon AG.
It signals a step in the right direction for our country in weeding
out corruption.
