WATER RESOURCES MINISTER DISMISSES ILP WASA PROTEST
The Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Ganga Singh, has refuted ILP Interim Leader Jack Warner’s claim that it was not necessary for WASA to conduct remedial work at the site of Friday’s ILP Rally.
In an impromptu tour of the area on Friday morning, the Minister met with residents who expressed their frustrations about the water supply in the area.
The Minister, with the help of residents, explained that the work undertaken by the WASA crew was legitimately required as the area was without a proper supply.
One resident, Ms. Joanna Sahadeo, told reporters that the supply in the area is erratic.
“We got about five minutes of water and then that’s it. Mostly let’s say about 1 or 2 o’clock in the morning, we will get a trickle. And then we would put on the pump to try and get a little water in the tank. That’s about it.”
Minister Singh dismissed suggestions that the work was part of a plot to block off access to Green Park Recreation Ground, where the ILP is set to hold its Rally.
He told reporters that Mr. Warner staged a sit-in as a political ploy, since it was clear that the park had many available access points, even with work in progress.
“The three hours sit-in was unnecessary. Workers told the leadership of the ILP they would complete the work in three hours last night. There is no hindrance whatsoever to people coming to Green Park. There are also two other access points to come to this Green Park.”
Minister Singh said it was common for WASA workers to work at night and dismissed suggestions that the work was intentionally scheduled for the upcoming bye election.
Instead, he said it was a response to the resident’s cry for help.
The Minister must stop deluding himself in believing anyone with knowledge and experience of WASA would believe him. What happened in Felicity was a deliberate attempt to frustrate Warner and the PP should be ashamed.
