UNC: Rowley must be held accountable
The United National Congress says Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley must be held accountable for his irresponsible actions, involving allegations he made in Parliament four years ago, in which police have found “nothing of substance.
Public Relations Officer for the UNC Anita Haynes issued the following statement:
In 2013, Opposition Leader Keith Rowley brought serious allegations against the then Prime Minister Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar and members of the People’s Partnership government.
In presenting the “emails” to Parliament in 2013, Dr Rowley sought to make a case that the Government officials were involved in criminal activity and that he was duty bound to present information which he said he spent six months to determine their merit.
Dr. Rowley’s actions have now been proven to be nothing more than attempts to malign Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, as well as members of the then People’s Partnership administration.
You will recall that in 2015 the Integrity Commission also cleared Mrs. Persad-Bissessar and the Parliament of any impropriety with respect to Rowley’s fake email allegations.
We have said it before and it is worth repeating now – Rowley’s reckless actions in misleading the Parliament and impugning members of the Government demonstrate that he is unfit to lead.
Today, Rowley is once again seeking to bully persons who are speaking out against him and his Government, threatening legal action against people posting on social media.
We in the Opposition now call on the Director of Public Prosecutions to take action in this matter.
Keith Rowley has repeatedly shown that he is incapable of leading this country and cannot be trusted. He personally led the country in a sustained campaign based on these fake emails and now he must take full responsibility for his actions.
The then Government moved swiftly to ensure that Rowley’s claims were investigated having always maintained that these allegations were fabricated, this could be compared to the Keith Rowley led administration’s lack of decisive action in the Ferrygate and Fake Oil scandals, where the country continues to await answers and action.
The time has come for Rowley to step down so that the people of Trinidad and Tobago can elect a team that is capable of fixing the problems created by the PNM and with a vision and plan to take the country forward.
