UNC PRO: Shame on you Camille
The Keith Rowley administration continues to be wrong and strong on the Darryl Smith saga. The sordid display on the PNM platform last night showed why they are not fit to lead/ govern. They are showing that they will close ranks and defend the indefensible no matter how vile. Mrs Camille Robinson- Regis tried yesterday to continue to bob and weave around a very serious issue, she sought to ridicule and minimize, and it is clear this a sustained effort by this Rowley regime.
In a statement today UNC Public Relations Officer, Senator Anita Haynes made the following comments:
“Keith Rowley sat and applauded as more members of his Government used their platform to ridicule and deflect from this very serious cover up. They continue to show a level of contempt for the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Instead of trying to make amends and fix their wrongs, they have opted to politicize and show that they cannot do the right thing.
They have serious questions to answer. They must tell the population:
-
What is the reason for not releasing the report into the Daryl Smith sexual harassment case when public funds were used? Is it acceptable to you to use public funds for a settlement but not to let the public know of the contents of the report?
-
Was Ms. Moreau fired because she reported the Former Minister for sexual harassment?
-
In your 2015 PNM Manifesto promised “Under the PNM Government, the following general principles of behavior will apply for all Parliamentarians, from both Houses; OPENNESS Members of Parliament should act and take decisions in an open and transparent manner. – Does this not apply to you anymore?
The committee’s findings, as reported noted, that Ms Moreau was making two complaints, “that she had been sexually harassed by the former minister and that her reporting of that complaint was the reason for her dismissal” shows the extent of this cover up by this administration.
“On the one hand you have to live in fear of being sexually harassed and then you also have to be afraid of being fired for reporting what happened, my heartbreaks for the injustice that Ms Moreau has faced.
I have nothing but empathy for Ms Moreau and what she has endured at the hands of this Government. And as they continue on the campaign trail to deflect from their abhorrent behavior, I urge all right-thinking citizens to focus on the issue at hand. Mrs Kamla Persad Bissessar acted decisively when issues of misconduct were brought to her attention.
This commitment to the blame game and petty politics shows that there is a crisis in leadership in the PNM. Rowley has shown that he will protect the members of his government at the expense of the people of Trinidad and Tobago. The Prime Minister cannot answer serious questions, so he has sent out members of the Cabinet to blame the victim and blame Kamla.
The fact remains, this Rowley administration has failed the people of Trinidad and Tobago, the news of this cover up has eroded what little confidence anyone had in this regime. Rowley must call the election now as he has failed as a leader.
