UNC meets with EBC
On Thursday, 25th April, 2019 a contingent from the United National Congress met with the Elections and Boundaries Commission to discuss a number of key issues. The meeting was at the request of the UNC and is part of the Party’s mandate to work in the interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
The team raised the following issues:
Voter registration
The ability members from Commonwealth states to vote in Trinidad and Tobago elections
The ability of the EBC to police the list of electors
The policy and rationale for the two EBC reports laid in Parliament
Additionally, the view was put forward that there are sections of our Representation of the People Act that are antiquated and simply do not reflect modern Trinidad and Tobago. The EBC has undertaken to respond to concerns of the UNC in writing, and we look forward to the response on the registration of voters and the movement of electoral districts for both Local Government and General Elections.
The United National Congress will continue the work necessary to ensure that good governance is returned to Trinidad and Tobago. A key component of our democracy is free and fair elections, and we look forward to elections that are free from fear.
