UNC Chairman: Guardian Story a red Herring to distract from PNM failure
As Chairman of the United National Congress I find it quite erroneous that reports have been focusing on baseless theories of the Opposition not being able to inspire confidence while the Government continues to suppress the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
The question must be therefore posed as to why discuss the Oppositions ability to inspire confidence? It isn’t the Opposition who has failed the nation but rather the current Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
The National conversation and perception must never be swayed from the real issues at heart which surround the fact that our nation continues to battle a murder rate which has escalated to disastrous levels, over 20,000 individuals have lost their jobs, economic growth continues to contract and many families are finding it tough to maintain a proper standard of living.
Therefore it is the Government who has failed to inspire confidence within the citizenry and as a nation we must continue to highlight these issues as it is the Government who has the constitutional power to change our nation.
The Opposition has not only remained steadfast in its goal to ensure the Government is accountable but all the members of the Opposition are united behind the leadership of the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar as well as the goal of protecting the rights, Liberty and welfare of our citizens.
The Opposition has been increasingly proactive as demonstrated with the FATCA Legislation but one must also recall the action taken against Government for its wrongful Police Commissioner Selection process, the present action against property tax and the many other issues such as unemployment and crime we have championed each week in our Parliament. Even the Oppositions efforts to reveal the real rationale for the TSTT acquisition of Massy Communication signify our intent on ensuring Government Accountability.
Our strong sense of national activism has been ably supported by the arms of the UNC which has produced the Monday Night Forum, our successful results in the local Government Election as well as effective constituency representative bodies to discussion national issues.
All organizations have differing thought within, however the UNC and its membership stand firmly behind its current leader the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissesar as well as the vision of enhancing our nation.
