Trade Ministry takes the lead, Port Scanner ordered
Wednesday 4th September, 2013 marked the start in what will be a significant day in the history of port operations in Trinidad and Tobago. Today’s meeting marked the first day in the process towards the acquisition of a linear accelerator X-Ray scanning and detection system for use by the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago – a scanner with the capacity to scan two hundred (200) containers per hour.
Trade Minister Vasant Bharath, along with Permanent Secretary Sandra Indar met with Ms. Fangyuan Xu of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and representatives of NUCTECH Company Limited, the Beijing-based company engaged by the Chinese Government for the purchase of a scanner for the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The purchase of the scanner will be financed from the grant facility provided in the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation for 2012 between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. This is a project led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment with the active support of the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Finance and the Economy.
