Tancoo to Gonzales: Water Crisis is no laughing matter
Rather than treat the current water crisis as a critical issue of national importance, Minister Marvin Gonzales believes it to be a laughing matter.
In response to a press conference held earlier this week to highlight the crisis faced by of hundreds of thousands of citizens who have been surviving without water for weeks, Minister Gonzales is quoted as saying the press conference was a “comedy fest”.
MP Tancoo says “It is disgusting that the Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales thinks that this national disaster which has put people’s lives and businesses at risk is a joke. There is nothing remotely funny about entire communities across Trinidad, having no pipe borne supply of water for over a month and having to resort to using pond and river water in their households.”
Tancoo said that it is one thing for this incompetent PNM Minister of Public Utilities to be a failure at his job, but another thing entirely to treat the absence of water, which is a vital part of human life, as a laughing matter.
Without a proper supply of water, many businesses have also been affected; persons have difficulty going to work, offices have had to close early and send workers home, hindering productivity and profitability. Schools have had to close early, disrupting the teaching of classes at the start of the new academic term/year.
MP Tancoo says that the manner in which the Government and in particular, Minister Marvin Gonzales has treated with this crisis, is sickening. While Marvin laughs at taxpayers’ expense, citizens are becoming increasingly frustrated.
Tancoo calls on the Prime Minister, who has been silent on the matter, to now step in and remove this class clown and put an end to the water war being waged against the people of Central and South Trinidad, unless PM Rowley also shares his Minister’s view that this water crisis is a joke.
