TANCOO: It’s ALL bad news
The response from the Acting Commissioner of Police, McDonald Jacob, to the fact that this country ranks as having the 6th highest crime rate in the world in the recent 2022 World Population Review is a cause for major concern. The Acting CoP declared this was “not all bad news.” For citizens of the country who live in the real world, this is HORRENDOUS news! The fact that this country is experiencing runaway crime cannot be covered up by statistical manipulation, PR stunts or misdirection declared MP for Oropouche West, Davendranath Tancoo.
Tancoo says that recently the Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds, boasted in Parliament about the detection rate being 34 percent. “What this means is that 66 percent of crimes for this year HAVE NOT BEEN SOLVED. I want to know why when it comes to the protection of citizens this government continues to fail its citizens!”
In addition to this, the Prime Minister’s Office sat on a report for over 5 months, a report that revealed widespread sexual, physical and mental abuse of children in homes, and those in authority, charged with protecting all citizens, did nothing with the fact that our most vulnerable citizens were under attack! Further, the Government cried crocodile tears about the rising crimes against women but have refused to implement the pepper spray legislation for almost a year now.
Even procurement regulations passed in Parliament 18 months now (since December 2020) remains on the Minister of Finance’s desk awaiting a simple signature to forward for assent into law. “Why is it that when it comes to protecting citizens, our rights and our assets, that this government continues to fail miserably?” questioned Tancoo.
This is not accidental. Recent revelations of over 97 recusals from Cabinet by a small group of Ministers when matters totalling billions came for approval, is testimony that the government continues to spend taxpayers’ dollars to benefit the interests of a few friends, family and financiers.
Today, when workers are seeking a living wage commensurate with rising prices, the Minister of Finance and the PM claim that it will take the country into debt. According to Tancoo, this is ironic given that it comes so soon after the Minister of Finance was boasting of economic turnaround and billions more in revenue.
“Over the last 7 years we have witnessed this government spend over $390 billion taxpayers’ dollars and yet we have the worse roads, drains, bridges, healthcare, education and national security than we have ever had in our history.
To attempt to pass off this abysmal situation as “not all bad” really is to try to fool the population. According to Tancoo, what the population needs is not PR and distractions. The population deserves the truth and an explanation of why we got here and how the government proposes to fix these problems.
The Oropouche West MP declared “For the Government and the Commissioner of Police to try to sugar-coat rape, robberies, assaults, home invasions, abuse of children and the slaughter of citizens is a shameful act and must be condemned as the con job that it is.”
