St. Helena Delta Bridge connecting Kelly Village to Piarco
The St Helena community received a $82.9 million Bypass which was opened by Works and Infrastructure Minister, Jack Warner in December 2011.
The new bypass will ease congestion in the busy village off Piarco, which connects the Borough of Arima and surrounding areas to Caroni.
Caroni East MP and Minister of Education, Dr Tim Gopeesingh, said with the opening, traffic congestion in the area would soon be a thing of the past. This will be so since the new access route will divert traffic south of the old Piarco Terminal back into Kelly Village, Caroni.
The new Bypass Road will also serve to keep the Piarco International Airport at a Grade A standard as aviation law stipulates that a roadway should be no nearer than 240 metres from an airport.
The Golden Grove Road is only 90 metres away while the St. Helena Bypass is 270 metres away.
