Siew Trace paved after 60 years
VILLAGERS of Siew Trace off Boodoo Trace in Debe finally got their road paved after waiting for decades. On Sunday, the villagers gathered to celebrate the opening of the newly paved road.
Pastor Dhimsingh Boodoosingh, 77, of the Full Gospel Fellowship church located in Siew Trace declared that is was a “miracle” that Siew Trace was paved with accompanying drainage works.
Boodoosingh was asked to cut the ribbon alongside MP for the area Dr Roodal Moonilal and Chairman of the Penal/Debe Regional corporation Premchand Sookoo.
Pastor Boodoosingh told reporters that the road was built in 1954 by the British Colonial government. He said it was the first time the road had been paved again since it was built.
Dr Moonilal noted that both himself and former MP for the area Kamla Persad-Bissessar, now Prime Minister, had made representation to the former PNM administration for ten years to have the road paved without success. He said his Government has delivered on a major infrastructure pledge.
