Senator Lutchmedial: PM’s Statement Reeks of Dictatorship

The PM’s threat to citizens that police can enter private premises is a dangerous and misleading statement which reeks of the unbridled dictatorship which has become synonymous with the PNM and Keith Rowley particularly since the onset of the Covid pandemic.

A responsible and right thinking leader would explain to the public the purported source of this legal power which he has suddenly discovered; I say it is sudden as I saw no instructions of this nature to the police when the AG was cavorting about maskless at his arm wrestling party or when a large wedding reception was being held mere weeks ago in St Clair.

The Minister’s power to make regulations under the Public Health Ordinance does not equate to the right to trample upon the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens. In fact, the most recent regulations published today contain absolutely no reference whatsoever to restrictions on activities in private spaces.

The law is very clear about what is a private space and what is a public space and just last year the police indicated that they could not intervene in private spaces where pool parties were being held. The AG in defense of his publicly broadcasted irresponsible behavior said the “lines become blurred in private settings”.

Have the lines now become clear? And if so, was the AG in breach of the law?
These are questions which citizens deserve answers to. Because surely, if the police can enter my home to stop me from hugging my Nani and Aagi, then they ought to have stopped little Johnny’s arm wrestling party!!!

I therefore call upon the Supreme Covid Dictator posing as a Prime Minister to disclose the legal opinion which has suddenly changed the law and which he is now using to threaten and bully citizens to mask his own failures with respect to management of this pandemic.

Tell us, who is the lawyer that advised you that there is one law for the PNM, their friends, family, financiers & Faris whilst there is another law for everyone else?
