Pride in National Anthem
Dear Editor:
Looking at the start of each game during the current World Cup being held in Brazil, you see the players lustfully singing their national anthem. The enigmatic Brazilian, Neymar and the Ivory Coast player, Serey Die have even bursts into tears while their anthem is being played. Even the fans get into it, signing so loud that the orchestra ceases playing to let them complete the anthem a capella.
For some while now, I have noticed that we in Trinidad and Tobago have stopped signing our anthem at functions and events. We simply stand at attention. Why have this practice taken hold in our country? The words represent something meaningful and should be sung loudly so that it could resonate in our hearts and minds. I sincerely hope that we could rediscover our voices.
