PM, Opposition Leader’s Twitter accounts in active exchange on Monday
Politcal banter found a new forum on Monday evening as the official Twitter accounts of Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar (@PMKamla) and Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley (@DrKeithRowley) traded words during the UNC’s Monday Night Forum.
The Prime Minister’s account tweeted at Dr. Rowley and other local journalists and bloggers shortly before she arrived at Munroe Road in Chaguanas to deliver her address.
The account continued to tweet at Dr. Rowley and others including media houses throughout the PM’s address to supporters on the ground. The tweets included “We are dealing with rural neglect left by the PNM.” and “Your MPs and Ministers have delivered to you the goods and services you have always desired.”
When the PM’s account tweeted: “We go forward as a team as a partnership,” Dr. Rowley tweeted “team of kleptomaniacs?”
Another moment was when the Prime Minister spoke about the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund, saying the “Heritage and Stabilization Fund stands @ US four point eight billion ($30 billion TT dollars).”
Dr. Rowley then tweeted: “Please keep your hands off the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund. Don’t steal our children’s future!”
The Prime Minister’s account continued to tweet the benefits of her party such as “Our primary mandate has always been and will always be Service to the People” and “We remain a party standing on the side of decency and honesty, integrity and fairness.”
The @PMKamla account ended with: “We are different parties, with different perspectives, we stand united as a partnership.”
The Opposition Leader meanwhile continued to respond to tweets sent by the Prime Minister’s account. Followers of both the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader responded to the exchange for just over 40 minutes.
Dr. Rowley then signed off for the night with the tweet: “Saying goodnight to Twitterverse. Supporters and detractors, be safe and may God bless our nation.”
