Opposition Leader Persad-Bissessar condemn France attack
The truck attack in Nice, France by a 31-year old driver is a shocking demonstration of the patience of forces that work against peace and liberty, Leader of the Opposition, Kamla Persad-Bissessar said on Friday.
In a statement following a truck attack on celebrants of Bastille Day, the National Day of France, a 31-year old truck driver is reported to have killed 84 people. The truck driver was subsequently killed by Police.
Persad-Bissessar said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of France and in particular, the families who lost their loved ones in this violent attack.”
“We in the Opposition United National Congress, and indeed the people of Trinidad and Tobago stand in solidarity with the French people and President François Hollande who rightly said “we are facing a long battle because we have an enemy who will continue to hate all the people who enjoy liberty.”
According to Persad-Bissessar: “The battle has been long and will continue to challenge us in every sphere of life, but battles for liberty and freedom were fought and won by our forefathers; we are a generation of people who are not only free, but also know how to defend our freedom.”
“Our liberty and freedom must not intimidate us by a fear of being under continuous attack, but it should remind us of the lessons we learned in protecting our world from those who seek to undermine freedom and hurt the innocent.”
“We wish the people of France God’s hand and protection in this time of horror and sadness,” Persad-Bissessar said.
