Need for a Special COVID -19 Committee
I note the recent announcement made by the Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley today in the Parliament concerning the reducing of many of COVID-19 Restrictions.
In light of these reductions comes at a time where globally we are seeing Countries that have done such reductions way before Trinidad and Tobago and these countries were able to get their economies back up and running.
Unfortunately, Trinidad and Tobago through this Government saw it fit to keep Trinidad and Tobago restricted.
The MP for Cumuto/Manzanilla now calls upon the Government to establish a Special Committee/s be set up to concerning the COVID -19 Global Pandemic.
This Committee should be comprised of members from Ministry of Health, Private Health Sector, Public Health Lab, CARPHA, C-40 and NIPDEC, NGOS and Volunteer Groups, Religious Bodies, Ambulance Services, Disposal Companies -Medical Waste Disposal, and even Funeral Homes.
It is important that this Committee be established as this Committee will be able to assess how the handling of this Pandemic was done.
The MP for Cumuto/Manzanilla believes that through this Committee a proper working TEMPLATE
can be set up for:
1. Clinical care
2. Social management
3. After Care
4. Data sharing and dissemination of accurate information for ANY Future Medical Crisis.
The MP further notes that there is a need to look at where we went right or wrong and especially how has the COVID impacted the Parallel Health Care system.
Too many times there were conflicting reports on how our Parallel Health Care System have been operating and this proposed Committee will surely get the questions answered and offer solutions. Many Outpatient Clinics were rescheduled and without patient and doctor consultation.
Even Elective Surgeries were cancelled. This was at the detriment of their Medical Health, and some unfortunately, may have died.
The MP for Cumuto/Manzanilla wishes to remind the Government in particular the Minister of Health that the front-line medical workers have been doing yeoman service and the time to REWARD THESE WORKERS IS NOW.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr Rai Ragbir
Member of Parliament for Cumuto/Manzanilla
