MP Khadijah Ameen calls on WASA to outsource services for truck borne water
Member of Parliament for St. Augustine, Ms. Khadijah Ameen is calling on the Minister of Public Utilities and the Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) to urgently provide truck borne water to areas within St. Augustine constituency and the east west corridor that have been without supply since a 48- inch main ruptured yesterday. MP Ameen says while residents have been patient, tanks are now empty and the three to five day waiting period given to those who made requests for truck borne supply may not be practical.
Affected areas in St. Augustine constituency include Bamboo Settlements #2 and #3, Valsayn South, Spring Village, Curepe, St. Augustine South, Pasea, Oropune Gardens, Samaan Garden Trincity, Tacarigua, Dinsley Village and Piarco.
According to the St. Augustine MP, one potential solution is engaging more private contractors for water trucking services to facilitate the provision of truck-borne water to affected areas in a shorter period of time, and she is calling on the Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales and WASA to urgently communicate to citizens a plan of action to bring immediate relief.
On Tuesday July 4th, the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) via press release advised customers in parts of North Trinidad, served by the Caroni Water Treatment Plant, who were without a supply that this was due to a leak on the 48-inch diameter transmission pipeline at the Plant. Subsequent releases indicated that Emergency repair works were delayed and customers have been without water since.
