Moonilal: PM statement a meek surrender to rampaging criminal elements
The statement issued by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley on October 31, amounts to a meek surrender to the rampaging criminal elements by a hopeless failed national leader.
I concur with the views of a specific media house that the Prime Minister’s statement was “ridiculous”. It was weak, impotent and convoluted.
After years of chronic inaction and hostile attacks on concerned nationals, the Prime Minister has now capitulated, leaving citizens even more vulnerable to armed and dangerous criminals.
Dr. Rowley has declined to engage in discussions with the parliamentary Opposition despite specific anti-crime proposals presented in writing to him and carefully articulated during the Budget debate.
In fact, he opted to publicly submit in writing to criminal monsters instead of responding to the detailed recommendations of Ms. Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Dr. Rowley’s admission of defeat also follows the costly Caricom conference on crime in April, paid for by Trinidad and Tobago’s taxpayers, and other much-hyped showpieces.
His statement is extremely troubling since it publicly indicates that his administration has no planned policies or legislative measures to tame the worsening crime scourge.
If Dr. Rowley is interested in the safety and security of citizens, he would abandon his latest useless world tour and work diligently against the criminal elements.
The Prime Minister’s gross mishandling of the crime epidemic is symbolic of his weak national leadership, which has also led to increased poverty, runaway cost of living, and crises in education, healthcare, and other sectors.
