Moonilal: Fire Failed Hinds Now
The latest ghastly mass murders and a new round of travel advisories from developed countries are further compelling reasons for the immediate dismissal of failed Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds. This Minister, made infamous by his sleepy imagery, has presided over unparalleled lawlessness. We can no longer blame only low level law enforcement personnel but must hold the political managers accountable.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley must abandon his arrogance and conceit, and sack Mr. Hinds, the most disastrous Security Minister in the country’s history.
The cold-blooded killings at Guanapo have placed Trinidad and Tobago under a more dreadful state of siege, with rampant panic and fear.
The homicides follow updated travel advisories from the United States and Canada, in which they warn their citizens about unchecked crime in these islands.
The stringent travel advisories represent a further direct blow to the declining economy, especially with respect to the struggling tourism industry and direct foreign investments.
The Canadian Government is warning its citizens about “violent crime, including armed robberies, assaults and sexual assault,” and the increase in kidnapping for ransom, shootings, and “other gang- and drug-related violence.”
The Canadian authorities are further cautioning about “pick-pocketing, bag-snatching and thefts from cars,” along with attacks at beaches and at certain high-risk communities.
The United States Government recently told its citizens to “reconsider travel to Trinidad and Tobago due to crime.”
Americans were warned that “violent crime, such as murder, robbery, assault, sexual assault, home invasions and kidnappings, are common.”
European and other countries have consistently urged their citizens to stay away from Trinidad and Tobago unless it is critically necessary.
These forceful warnings, along with the unceasing murders and other bloody crimes, make it incomprehensible that the incompetent Mr. Hinds still heads the National Security portfolio.
Failure to remove Mr. Hinds means the Prime Minister has no concern for the safety and welfare of citizens.
Clearly the $3.4 m crime symposium at the Hyatt has led to absolutely no positive change in the fight against the new breed of heinous criminals that stalk our land.
