Oropouche East MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal is pleading with the Keith Rowley-led Government to show some compassion for over twenty-five (25) families who have been evicted by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The families, including over 50 children were told they must immediately leave buildings deemed condemned at Harmony Hall in Gasparaillo.
However, the HDC have provided them with no alternative accommodation. Many have no other place to go too and are facing the dire prospect of sleeping on the streets.
“I am asking the Government to please show some compassion. These people have no where else to go. Why are there being treated like criminals; why is the HDC being so heartless?” asked Moonilal.
The former Minister of Housing and Urban Development added that “It’s unthinkable that at this time when so many families are dealing with increased unemployment and crime, the HDC has decided to go one step further and throw these families out onto the street. I am begging the Minister of Housing to please intervene and provide these families with temporary housing.”
One of the displaced residents and father of one Godfrey Phillip pleaded directly with the Prime Minister for mercy. “I want Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley to look upon us and have mercy,” the 32-year old man cried.
