Message from the Leader of the Opposition on the occasion of Eid al-Adha
Assalamu alaikum
I extend warm greetings and best wishes to the Muslim community in Trinidad and Tobago on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, is a commemoration of prophet Ibrahim’s act of obedience and his willingness to follow God’s command without question.
The Holy Quran tells us that Allah commanded Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience. As Ibrahim prepared for the sacrifice, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram to be slaughtered in his stead.
This occasion serves as a beautiful reminder for all of us to strengthen our faith in God, as well as the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood.
Eid al-Adha holds a profound meaning, symbolising sacrifice, devotion, and unity.
Unity is needed now, more than ever in our beloved nation, as we deal with the challenges confronting us. Our citizens are facing hardships such as joblessness, high food prices and high cost of living. Across the country, rising crime continues to cause anxiety and fear, and many feel a sense of hopelessness.
As the Leader of the United National Congress and Opposition Leader, I urge all citizens to reflect on the tenets of Islam of faith, compassion, empathy, and selflessness towards others.
Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to rebuilding our fragmented nation. Let us glue together the broken fragments that our beloved country has been splintered into and let us do it with love.
On this special occasion of Eid al-Adha, may this joyous occasion bring you closer to your loved ones, strengthen your faith, and fill your hearts with gratitude and joy.
On behalf of the UNC, I extend my best wishes to you and your families. May your prayers be answered, and may your sacrifices be rewarded. May this Eid al-Adha be a source of blessings and peace, as well as prosperity for all.
Eid Mubarak!
