Message from the Leader of the Opposition on the occasion of Corpus Christi
As members of our Christian community observe the holy celebration of Corpus Christi, I extend warm wishes for a peaceful, prayerful and most importantly a reflective day on the mercies of God in our everyday lives.
The blessed feast of Corpus Christi celebrates the body of Jesus or Eucharist which is a reminder of God’s presence, His love, His unending dedication to us and His constant presence among us even in the tough times. Corpus Christi reminds us of Jesus’ offering of his Body and Blood which serves in the Christian Church as a lasting memorial of His saving death for us.
The solemnity of Corpus Christi is a day that provides us with the opportunity to reflect on God’s constant provision of hope, sustenance, joy, refuge and love in our daily lives even when circumstances become difficult.
As we gather to celebrate this holy day, let us also take a moment to reflect on the social and economic challenges that we face as a nation, including a cost of living crisis, rising unemployment and high crime rates.
In the face of challenges, our collective faith can serve as a guiding light, inspiring us to reach out and support those in need. Let us lend a helping hand to the marginalised and vulnerable among us, offering comfort, compassion, and hope to those who require it most.
On this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to following the teachings of Jesus Christ, and work together to create a more just and compassionate society. May this occasion strengthen the bonds that hold us together as a nation, and may it inspire us to build a future where all citizens can thrive.
I wish each and every one of you a joyous Corpus Christi celebration filled with love.
Let us pray for peace, healing, and hope in our nation.
God bless Trinidad and Tobago.
