Leaders have taken us down path of shame
The former People’s National Movement (PNM) parliamentarian Rennie Dumas was found guilty of assault and fined by the courts.
Donna Cox, current MP for Laventille East/Morvant, is alleged to have slapped PNM San Juan/Laventille councillor Kwesi Antoine some months ago.
Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley was labelled a “wajang” and a “hooligan” by his then leader, Patrick Manning.
If we keep on digging into the PNM’s past, we will see this is a common trend of its brand of politics. Dr Patrick Solomon and Johnny O’Halloran were prime examples of those who were flagrant with the law.
This level of lawlessness is something that has infiltrated our nation’s psyche for too long, and we are seeing the evidence of this abuse being manifested in our society today in the crime statistics.
This level of blatant disregard for the law over time has led to the conundrum in which we now find ourselves; this is not an overnight phenomenon. We have been conditioned to believed it okay to bend the law, that this is “Trini” style!
However, those leaders who have led us down this road should feel ashamed, for they are responsible for our nation not fulfilling its true potential.
