KEEPING IT GREEN
In keeping with green initiatives and relevant movements concerning the protection and preservation of the environment, as Member of Parliament for my constituency of St. Augustine, I will be hosting a green initiative by planting 1000 trees throughout various recreational grounds and parks within our nation of Trinidad and Tobago.
This drive is an initiative through my office having been elected as Member of Parliament on August 10th2020. My team and I would engage in 10 days of tree planting.
By planting these trees, not only will our agricultural soil be sustained, but the oxygen levels from the trees will purify the air and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted. This exercise will also help mitigate the effects of flooding as the trees intercept rainfall thereby slowing the rate that water flows into rivers and reducing the risks of the bursting of the river banks.
This movement also aims to unite all individuals nationwide to be aware of soil health as well as the sustenance of our environment. It is imperative that we all come together and put in our efforts to maintain our environment, more specifically, our agricultural soil.
By partaking in these green movements, we can assist in alleviating the social and environmental issues that plague our local and international communities, inclusive of food crises, loss of biodiversity, water scarcity, air pollution, loss of livelihood as well as climate change.
I cordially invite all editors to join me and cover the launch of this green initiative on Wednesday 10thAugust at 3pm whereby myself and community activists would be planting 10 trees at the Helping Hands Recreational Grounds, Streatham Lodge Road Extension, St. Augustine South.
Let us get proactive towards the maintenance and conservation of our environment and by extension, our nation.
