Kamla’s Plan: To get us home faster
25 August, 2015
This afternoon, Mrs. Kathy-Ann Francis, the Peoples Partnership candidate for Laventille East/Morvant met with reporters in front of Parkade Public Parking Complex to talk about the Prime Minister Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s plan to alleviate traffic problems and get people home faster.
“Every day, workers leave their jobs and come to a place just like this before starting the long trek home” said Mrs. Francis. “Kamla has a plan to help workers get home faster so they can spend more time doing what they like and less time sitting in traffic”
Earlier this month, the Prime Minister launched her manifesto for the 2015 election, highlighting 20 for 2020 – 20 pledges to help improve the lives of all our citizens.
“Over the last five years, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the Partnership has been working hard to expand long-term transport solutions through investments in better roads, highways and transit systems” said Mrs. Francis. “However, more can be done to help workers get to and from their jobs more quickly.”
“A vast number of people do not have access to reliable transportation; and it is a major issue which adds stress to thousands of hardworking families travelling to work and school” said Mrs. Francis. “Kamla PersadBissessar’s recognizes this problem and has a clear plan to create a safer, more efficient and accessible public transportation system”
Mrs. Francis outlined the Partnership’s plan to provide commuters with more reliable, efficient and safer public transportation through “construction of transport hubs like City Gate in heavy traffic areas, like Chaguanas, Arima and St. Augustine and establishment of two rapid bus transit systems to service the east to west and north to south routes with limited stops to offer people faster travel along our nations’ highways.”
Mrs. Francis also highlighted building of “secure park and ride facilities – which means you can simply park your car, use public transit to get to your final destination and not have to drive to work; and dedicated school buses with multiple routes will also be established to ensure that our children can reach safely to and from their homes and schools”
Unfortunately, Keith Rowley has no plan to help workers get home to their families faster. “He intends to waste $60 billion dollars on his vanity railroad project, which he has no plan to pay for. This is neither a plan nor a viable transport solution for Trinidad and Tobago” said Mrs. Francis. “Mr. Rowley’s cuts to education, healthcare, essential services and increases in taxes to pay for his rail road will hit hardworking families the most.”
On September 7th, families on the road face a clear choice. Kamla Persad-Bissessar has a plan to help families get home faster and safer, while not sacrificing the important things like education and healthcare which improve peoples’ lives.
Keith Rowley has no plan and only one policy – wasting billions of dollars to build his vanity rail project and sacrificing investments for real improvement to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
