Kamla: Opposition to consider Government’s Presidential nominee
Leader of the Opposition, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, described today’s meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and his team to discuss the nomination of an individual for the position of President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as “cordial and productive.”
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar indicated to the Prime Minister that the Opposition is keen on working with the Government to move this process forward, in the interests of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
During the meeting, Dr. Rowley presented the Government’s nominee, Madame Justice Paula-Mae Weekes, and the Opposition Leader indicated that due consideration would be given by the Opposition Members of Parliament.
Noting that the Opposition is mindful of the deadline of Monday 8th January for the submission of nominations, Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said that the Opposition’s decision would be communicated to the Office of the Prime Minister at the earliest opportunity.
