Kamla: Assistance also needed for Sangre Grande, Mayaro and Manzanilla
The Political Leader of the United National Congress Mrs Kamla Persad Bissessar and its National Executive wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to the thousands of volunteers who gave freely of their time and resources to help those most in need.
“What we have witnessed over the past few days is the best of Trinidad during the worst of times” Mrs Persad Bissessar said in a statement today.
“People came out in droves braving the bad weather because they saw people in need and that is the true spirit of our people.”
All arms of the UNC have been out assisting in whatever way we could and we will continue to do so over the coming weeks as the communities try to return to a sense of normalcy.
We urge volunteers to continue providing support in the hard hit areas of St Helena, Kelly Village, La Horquetta, Caroni, El Socorro, Bamboo Settlements 1 & 2, and to also remember the communities of Sangre Grande, Mayaro and Manzanilla which were also adversely affected, and are in dire need of help. Persons are still in need of mattresses, clothes, cleaning and school supplies. These areas were also hard hit in the recent flooding.
All our channels remain open and we urge anyone in need of assistance to reach out and we would do our best to help. Thank you again to all those who gave so freely and selflessly. It is truly the hallmark of a great nation when its people embody such selflessness.
