Give Jack his jacket
I am not a fan of Minister of National Security, Jack Warner. I detest the way he always has an opinion on everything.
However, I have a serious problem with the opponents calling for him to step down pending the determination of the allegations against him.
Those who are calling for his head are opponents of the Government.
The argument that he is besmirching the good name of our country is a ruse.
These things are besmirching or have been damaging our good name for years: the runaway crime problem with a very low detection rate, the plethora of criminal gangs, hundreds of millions of laundered money that pass through the system annually, and failure to implement laws.
Fix those things then our image would improve. Jack Warner must not be the sacrificial lamb.
If Jack Warner resigns tomorrow, would his action help the case?
No!
He himself would not be a willing witness. What his resignation would most certainly do is help to destabilise the Kamla Persad-Bissessar administration.
Why are people so anxious to sacrifice Mr Warner?
I thought that a man is innocent until proven guilty.
As far as the Opposition is concerned a man must be prosecuted based on allegations alone and not based on cogent, compelling, corroborated and irrefutable evidence.
What about the rules of natural justice?
Let the American authorities prove their case against Mr Warner beyond a shadow of a doubt or develop “a slam dunk case” and I would be the first to say “crucify him”. Until then give Jack his jacket.
The PM is correct to take the stance that she is adopting.
Do you know how long it takes for the FBI to conduct an investigation?
It could go on for years.
So Jack would be out of the Government for years to appease a few?
Let justice take its course.
