Ramadharsingh : “Protect our womenfolk from violence at all costs”.

Minister of the People and Social Development Dr.Glenn Ramadharsingh has issued an emotional and passionate appeal for the country’s women to be protected from violence at all costs. His comments came as he embarked on yet another leg of walkabouts/Direct Effect (Saturday March 9th, 2013) in the Chickland area of the Caroni Central Constituency, as this country joined with the rest of the world in observing International Women’s Day. He said, “We as a community, a society, a nation and a people must join hands in protecting our women folk from violence in whatever fashion it may be perpetrated against them, whether it is physical, mental or emotional”.

Dr.Ramadharsingh who themed his latest walkabout, ‘Nurturing, Uplifting and Protecting Women” insisted, “the country’s women continue to be the building blocks and the foundation stones upon which our society is nurtured, and so we must hold them up in high esteem, with the greatest of respect”.

The Caroni Central MP cited Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar as the perfect exemplar, of a woman who defied many challenges to become this country’s first female Prime Minister. “She has led by example in establishing a Ministry of Gender Affairs, a Ministry of the People, the Children’s Life Fund, rewarding every SEA child with a laptop thereby creating a world of educational opportunities for every child”, said Dr.Ramadharsingh.
Dr. Ramadharsingh however told constituents that while there is much to be thankful for there is still much work to be done, which can only be achieved in a spirit of togetherness.
