Couva North Celebrates Shivratri
MAHA SHIVRATRI was celebrated by Hindus across Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday as they made offerings to Lord Shiva on the night dedicated to His worship.
Despite this year’s religious celebration coinciding with Carnival, Hindus still came out in their numbers to various temples and prayed until dawn.
Couva North MP, Ramona Ramdial visited ten temples in her constituency on her annual Shivratri ‘tirath’, making offerings and bringing greetings to her constituents.
“Thousands of Hindus opted out of Carnival this year since Shivratri fell on Carnival Tuesday. The young people who made the choice to fast and attend temple should be especially commended”, said Ramdial.
She praised the pundits and executive committees of each temple on her visit for their “stellar contributions to community development and youth programs as those initiatives help keep young people out of a life of crime”.
