Children Spend Vacation at Bank Village Camp
Children from Bank Village and environs are enjoying spending their school vacation at a camp hosted free of charge by the Couva North Youth Arm.
This vacation camp is being held at the recently opened Bank Village Empowerment Centre and exposes children to sporting, academic, social and cultural activities.
Couva North MP, Ramona Ramdial introduced this project through the youths of her constituency as a home-work programme, running during the school term and expanded it to also engage children during their vacation.
Ramdial stated that “the children of our country are the future leaders of society and therefore it is important to capture them at a young age to shape minds and cultivate positive behaviors”.
She aims to target children from poor homes with these initiatives, helping those who cannot afford to attend such programmes privately. “By engaging youths in these programmes, they would be less likely to become involved in criminal and other idle activities while away from school”, she added.
Lunch is provided free for participants, ensuring that the children get at least one proper meal while on vacation and further easing the burden on low income homes during this period.
The camp runs on Monday – Thursday from 9:00AM – 2:00PM from 21st July to 21st August.
Ramdial intends to expand this programme to include homework centres and camps throughout her constituency.
