Chaguanas East calls for Empowerment of Women through access to technology

Member of Parliament for Chaguanas East, Ms. Vandana Mohit,
International Women’s Day is a day chosen to celebrate the very many achievements of women across all walks of life. It brings to the fore topical issues of violence against women, reproductive rights, gender equality, leadership and governance to name a few.
This year’s theme speaks to the innovation and technology for gender equality. To that end, it is my wish that there should be, in the year 2023, free WI-FI set up across every city, village and public space in this nation. The world is now considered to be one global village and the thread that binds is technology itself and so it is high time that free WI-FI is readily accessible to all citizens.
Also, in keeping with the theme of innovation and technology, I am advocating the full restoration of the laptop computers in all schools of this nation. Denying our children, the access to technology will itself stifle the innovation of the next generation.
Finally, I must acknowledge and celebrate on this day, the very first female Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC. A very happy International Women’s Day to one and all!
