UNC appoints former High Commissioner Caretaker for Diego Martin North East Constituency
The United National Congress announced today that former High Commissioner Garvin Nicholas has with immediate effect been appointed Caretaker for the Diego Martin North East Constituency.
This move has been taken to ensure that the party’s efforts in this constituency will be successful. The party is of the view that this constituency, given the poor record of the PNM Member of Parliament, is listed among those targeted to win in 2015.
It will be recalled that Mr. Nicholas garnered 8,076 votes and came within 466 votes of winning the constituency in the 2010 general elections. He went on to become a highly successful High Commissioner, winning the hearts of the Diaspora in the UK and the prestigious Ambassador of the Year Award in 2013.
Mr. Nicholas returned to Trinidad and Tobago in April this year to assist the party’s elections efforts and was asked to be the Caretaker of the critical St Joseph constituency.
The former High Commissioner performed yeoman service in St Joseph, having provided people centered goods and services to residents, stabilized the constituency, placed it on a path to success for the party and now has been requested to do the same in Diego Martin North East.
Mr. Nicholas looks forward to working to improve the living conditions of the people of Diego Martin North East – a constituency he calls home. Even though he is not the sitting MP, he was instrumental in getting the Paramin RC primary school built, illuminating recreation grounds and supported the government’s recent completion of the Diego Martin highway extension.
